Culebra Island, also known as Isla Culebra (Snake Island), might surprise you. Located in the Spanish Virgin Islands near St. Thomas and Vieques, this little island is the perfect place to relax far away from the crowds.
Imagine walking to the beach and seeing wild chickens wandering around! That's the vibe in Culebra! The island's laid-back energy is contagious, with locals and visitors alike soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the simple pleasures.
With stunning beaches like Flamenco Beach consistently ranked among the world's best (although Zoní Beach is still my number one, Culebra is the paradise for sunseekers. Whether you want to swim, snorkel, or simply relax on the warm sand, Culebra delivers.

getting there
To get to Culebra, you have two options: you can either take the ferry or take a small airplane!
The more affordable way is to drive to Ceiba, which is about an hour and a half from San Juan, and then take the ferry to Culebra. The ferry ride takes around 45 minutes and costs $2.50 - $3.00. Ferries depart every 2 hours, so it's a good idea to buy your tickets online in advance.
The faster option is to take a small plane from San Juan Airport, which will get you to Culebra in about 30 minutes. One-way tickets for the plane ride range from $60 to $90. It's also worth noting that if you plan to visit Culebra or Vieques as part of your Puerto Rico trip before departing the U.S., most major airlines offer combined bookable fares for these routes.

getting around
Renting a Jeep is a great way to explore Culebra's charming roads and discover hidden gems. There are golf carts available as well, but Iβd recommend renting a jeep if youβre thinking about going to cool spots to hike. Car rentals are available near the airport, with Carlos Jeep Rental and Jerry's Jeep Rental being the two popular options.
