Norway Travel Diaries: a photo journey and itinerary

train ride from Trondheim → Bodø

can we take a moment to appreciate Norway’s beauty?

The train ride from Trondheim to Bodø was an unforgettable experience. The breathtaking scenery seemed to go on forever, and there was always something new to see. Despite the 9-hour journey, it was definitely a must-do activity for anyone visiting Norway. The views were simply stunning and made the long ride more than worth it.

renting a car in Bodø to take the ferry → Reine

Bodø was a cool town to explore, despite the strong winds. After picking up our car, we headed to the ferry for the next leg of our journey in Reine. One of the coolest things about this ferry ride was being able to drive our car into the ferry and park it in the garage while taking in the beautiful views from the upper deck.

And snacks is a must! Thankfully there’s a food court on the ferry and I bought their chips, tea and chocoloate. Yum yum yum. As we enjoyed the scenery, we were treated to an absolutely gorgeous sunset. While photos don’t do justice, the shot of the sunset was taken on my iPhone capturing the stunning colors of the sky.

first night dining in Reine

The restaurant we dined at in Reine was a charming wooden building that was once an old general store dating back to the 1790s. The renovations transformed the space into a cozy and inviting atmosphere. It was fascinating to enjoy our meal while being surrounded by Norway's rich history.

the next morning in Reine ☀️✨

It was so surreal just to be in Reine, I think this was probably my favorite part of the trip. Waking up and seeing the beautiful morning skies and peering out through the balcony you can just see water everywhere. The wind was blowing and the air was crisp. I loved being there. This, is happiness.

What an exhilarating hike! The hike was a challenge, taking about four hours, as I don't usually do much cardio other than walking to the subway and to work. Thankfully, there were rest stops along the way up, providing a place to rest and take in the scenery. Gabriel kept suggesting turning back if I was too tired, but I was determined to reach the top and refused to give up.

I thought about bringing my drone with me, but we weren't sure if it would be possible to fly it without crashing into the trees. However, once we reached the top, there were open areas that would have been perfect for flying. The view from the top was breathtaking, and I didn't want to leave. The fresh air and the 360-degree view made it worth the tough climb. Although the journey to the top was hard with the steep steps, I would definitely recommend this hike. If I could do it, so can you!

experiencing the Northern Lights at Skagsanden Beach

While driving to watch the Northern lights, we saw them while we were driving in the darkness and we were so excited. At first we thought it was car lights from behind flashing, but then realized no it’s the Northern lights in the sky emanating greens, blues and yellows. It was absolutely beautiful.

We drove to the (beach name) to see it and while we were shaking in the cold while the ocean breeze was hitting us, we looked up and the aurora lights glistened and danced in the sky. It felt amazing. We stood outside watching for about 2 hours.

Unfortunately I didn’t bring my DSLR camera, which I should’ve but—should’ve, could’ve, would’ve—we took advantage of using our iPhone cameras. And dare I say, not bad? It is blurry and not as beautiful as the other professional photographers aurora lights out there, but I’m not a professional photographer, and I just wanted to take pictures documenting and reminding myself, look, we saw the aurora in Norway. This is something I’ll always be proud to say.

Beautiful and cozy barn restaurant at the Northern coast of Lofoten. I didn’t get a chance to take pictures of the food experience, but I did take a picture of the cozy interior. How cute!
