Fan Fried Rice Bar in Brooklyn, Williamsburg

Fan Fried Rice Bar, Williamsburg: Overhead Projector Adds Charm to the Atmosphere

Gabriel and I passed by Fan Fried Rice Bar a couple times when we were heading back home from Williamsburg. Later finding out that this was actually a Taiwanese gem!

As a Taiwanese American who spent two incredible years studying in Taiwan, I've been craving the authentic flavors of Taiwanese cuisine. So, when we realized that this gem was not only in Brooklyn but also conveniently in Williamsburg — we knew we had to pay it a visit.

about Fan Fried Rice Bar

Fan Fried Rice Bar: Stylish Bar Area with Lush Plants and Clean White Tiles

Fan Fried Rice Bar, named after the Chinese word “Fán 飯” which means rice, embraces its cultural roots with a logo reminiscent of a handheld fan.

Located in Bedstuy since 2018, Fan Fried Rice Bar relocated to Williamsburg in 2022, where it continues to win hearts with its dedication to authentic Taiwanese flavors.

This charming eatery is launched by Paul Chen, a passionate chef hailing from Taiwan. Paul's journey began when he realized the absence of authentic Taiwanese cuisine in New York. Inspired by the unforgettable flavors of his grandmother's fried rice dishes, he decided to share the genuine taste of fried rice — the way it's meant to be. Yup. You guessed it. No soy sauce.

the drinks

Sipping on Lychee Taiwan Beer and Taiwanese Pale Lager at Fan Fried Rice Bar: Taiwanese Beverage Delights

Lychee Taiwan Beer & Taiwanese Pale Lager

If you’re eating Taiwanese dishes, you HAVE TO have a Taiwanese beer.

I love my drinks sweet, so I went for my favorite Taiwanese Lychee Beer. This is actually also one of my favorite beer when I visit Taiwan during the summers. It’s sweet, refreshing, and perfect for summer! This drink also paired well with my Mushroom Fried Rice. Drinking the beer and eating the fried rice made me feel like I was back in Taiwan again.

Gabriel ordered the Taiwanese Pale Lager. Which is another classic Taiwanese beer that’s a must-try for beer enthusiasts. Unlike the intensity of an IPA, this lager is more refreshing and balanced profile, which makes it a great choice for any time of the year!
