Larry’s: brunch in Montréal

Braving the winter snow, we set out on a 23-minute walk from our Airbnb in Montreal, ready to explore the city. Little did we know that the snow had other plans. With heavy snow pelting our faces and the wind whipping into our eyes, our stroll was less of a leisurely wander and more of a survival mission. But, as they say, the show must go on!

Anyways, we made our way to Larry's, Gabriel's choice for breakfast, and what a great choice it was! Despite the snowstorm outside, the restaurant was bustling with activity, with a waitlist and people still streaming in. Originally, we were asked to sit at the kitchen bar, but with other plans later, we opted for a booth so we don’t smell like the kitchen smoke all day.

Larry’s is a elevated casual cuisine spot that serves up a mix of all-day cafe and evening restaurant vibes, with wine and a bar counter to accompany their delicious menu. With the kitchen just behind the bar, you can watch the staff whipping up your meals right in front of you. The space is tastefully designed, with seats and booths filling the interior, and the focus on honest cooking and supporting local agriculture.

We ordered: coffee, chai latte, scones with jam and clotted cream, french fries (why not!), a breakfast sandwich, and a vege breakfast sandwich. To our delight, the food arrived quickly and was delicious. For all the matcha latte lovers out there, they don't have it, but their chai latte was a close second for me. The scones were a standout, with homemade jam and clotted cream. And the breakfast sandwich, while not the most attractive dish, was a revelation with its perfectly crisp bun and fresh, flavorful filling. The portions may be smaller than what we're used to in America, but they're just the right size. (click here to see their menu)

Our experience at Larry’s was truly phenomenal, with impeccable service despite the never-ending stream of customers. Whether you're looking for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or just drinks and snacks, Larry's is a must-visit. Don't miss out on this gem!
