While visiting Taipei, my friend and her partner introduced me to Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, a place I had never heard of before. We hopped on YouBikes and pedaled over, which I was completely unaware of the rich history waiting for me.
What I love about Taiwan is how it breathes new life into its historic buildings, preserving their original character while seamlessly integrating modern design and technology. Instead of demolishing and rebuilding, Taiwan revitalizes — giving these spaces a second life.
As we arrived, I was blown away by the sheer size and vibrancy of this huge park. It’s more than just a former factory; it’s a center of creativity, with art, culture, and design.
If you’re someone who loves discovering unique spaces, this is a must-add to your Taipei itinerary.
about Songshan Cultural & Creative Park
Built in 1937 under Japanese rule, the Songshan Tobacco Factory was Taiwan’s first cigarette manufacturing facility, producing cigarettes and cigars that contributed to the island’s economy. When cigarette demand declined in 1998, the factory merged with Taipei Cigarette Factory, ceasing production.
By 2001, the Taipei City Government designated it as a historic site, and a decade later, in 2011, it was reborn as Songshan Cultural and Creative Park.
Today, SCCP is a thriving space for art exhibitions, design shops, creative markets, and cultural events. Its mission? To foster originality, support young artists, and provide a platform for Taiwan’s growing creative industry.
It’s the perfect spot for both locals and travelers to experience the city’s artistic pulse.

For those who love zipping through the city on two wheels, renting a scooter via Klook is a fantastic option, especially for solo travelers.

things to do
Shop at Design Pin
A curated store featuring unique Taiwanese design brands with aesthetic, functional products. Perfect for gifts or souvenirs!
This is honestly the perfect place to buy a unique gift for yourself or others. I purchased a really cool squishy marble hand soap that I thought was super cool. I also bought a soap dish for my brother and one for myself.
Not Just Library
A former bathhouse that’s been transformed into a peaceful reading and working space. To enter, you need to purchase a ticket for NT$50, which can be acquired through a QR code near the entrance or at the Design Pin register.
Before entering, remove your outdoor shoes and place them in the cubby outside. Indoor slippers are available for you to wear, so feel free to pick a pair that fits you before heading inside.
As this is a quiet space similar to a library, please remember to keep noise to a minimum!
