【薰衣草森林】Lavender Cottage in Taichung

Flower fields in full bloom at Lavender Cottage, a captivating floral spectacle

Located in Zhonghe Village (中和村), Lavender Cottage is an idea that blossomed from the dreams of two city girls wanting their own lavender-filled sanctuary — a place where your body and soul could find tranquility and peace.

I’ve had Lavender Cottage in my Taichung Bucket List and thought this would be an amazing place to explore with my partner, Gabriel, which was his first visit to Taiwan, along with my friends Nik and Greg, who have come all the way from Bristol to join us. I wanted Lavender Cottage to be a shared experience of discovering the beauty of flowers and immersing ourselves in nature.

Also, in case you’re wondering what are those round circles on my back on the top picture — I did cupping!

Location

We called an Uber to get to Lavender Garden from Taichung City. The drive to reach Lavender Cottage was stunning but also kind of long — lots of windy roads and scenic views.

Entrance to Lavender Cottage

From Taichung: You can call either a yellow taxi, an Uber, or drive yourself into the mountains to Lavender Cottage

Outside of Taichung: Take the closest High-Speed Rail (HSR) from your location and get off at Taichung station. When you exit the station, you can take either a shuttle, bus, or call a taxi to get to Lavender Cottage

bathroom

In case you need to go, there’s an outdoor bathroom in Lavender Cottage for you to use.

The sink is on the other side, while the toilets are facing towards the mountains.

What’s unique about the toilets is there’s an open window for you to peak out while you’re on the toilet. Don’t worry, no one will be able to see you!

Forest Cafe 森林咖啡館

Although our stomachs were still full from breakfast, the Forest Cafe's offerings was too tempting to resist. We decided to treat ourselves to a cozy coffee and tea session by trying out their lavender-special dishes before exploring Lavender Cottage.

Delicious treats from the Forest Cafe at Lavender Cottage, a culinary delight

For drinks, Gabriel and I ordered the Iced Lavender Milk Tea (薰衣草奶茶), which was actually a refreshing twist to the classic milk tea. The lavender was subtle but soothing to the throat.

For snacks, we ordered the Ice Cream Waffle with Honey (森林冰淇淋鬆餅). The lavender-infused ice cream paired harmoniously with the subtly sweet glaze of honey over the waffle.

We also couldn't resist trying the Sweet Potato Fries & French Fries with Ketchup (卡茲卡茲雙料脆薯) — which is a dream come true for potato lovers btw!

TIP: If you're planning a visit to Lavender Cottage, make sure to go on an empty stomach to try their Forest Cafe

Personal Experience

We visited in October and it was definitely still very hot. I thought that the Lavender would start blooming at that time, but it sadly wasn’t in season. Regardless, it was still a beautiful expereince with different types of flowers planted alongside.

When purchasing your entry ticket at the front entrance, they’ll give you a Lavender Coin to take $100 TWD off any purchase.

They also have this amazing mosquito spray they made themselves that smells like lavender at the entrance. Sadly, they don’t sell their lavender mosquito spray — which is a big bummer! If they sold it at the gift shop, I would totally buy it!

I would love to come back again and visit when the lavenders are actually in bloom! But my recommendation when visiting is to wear comfortable & cute clothes, flat shoes and visit the flowers first. Afterwards, go to the Forest Cafe to grab food. Once you’re done eating, you can walk around and explore the whole place!
