Susie’s in Culebra, Puerto Rico
Culebra is this island paradise off the coast of Puerto Rico. Think swaying palm trees, crystal-clear water, and a laid-back vibe that will melt your stress away. And after a day of exploring, what better way to unwind than with a delicious meal? Our first stop for island flavors was Susie's Restaurant...

stepping inside
Reservations are a must! This place fills up fast, and their hours are limited!
When you arrive, you might be surprised — even though you walk "inside," you’re still dining outdoors.
As the sun starts setting, you can see the beautiful skies, setting a romantic vibe.
There’s a ton of space all around, so don’t worry about sitting too close to other people who are dining there as well.
One more thing that adds to the unique atmosphere? Friendly dogs and cats roaming around! (Don't worry, even with cat allergies, I survived.)
They seemed to be more interested in chilling and walking around rather than bugging you for food.
One of the cats meowed and looked at me, then just walked away. 🐱
TIP
Make sure to wear mosquito spray because you’re dining outdoors! 🦟

food highlights
I read online that Susie's menu is described as Puerto Rican-Asian fusion. However, when we arrived, the menu seemed to be more focused on classic Puerto Rican cuisine with some creative twists.
Anyways, since we were on an island, we wanted to try their seafood options.
We started with the Cod Fish Fritters with lime and curry aioli for appetizers — this was super good and flavorful!
For the main course, I went with the Jumbo Shrimp and waffle fries as my side, and Gabriel ordered the Mahi Mahi with the same waffle fries on the side. Everything came out super fast, and the portions were huge! My shrimp was juicy and amazing, and Gabriel enjoyed his Mahi Mahi, although it wasn't like a, ‘Wow this is so good’ kind of vibe.
We also treated ourselves to some Red Sangria — cause why not?!
Susie's also caters to vegetarians and vegans, although these options aren't listed directly on the menu. Just ask your server, and they'll be happy to help.
Overall, the food was good with generous portions. The service was friendly, but a bit inattentive at times — which I guess is just an island vibe. The price point is definitely on the higher side, but considering the portion sizes, it's somewhat understandable.
