The Ultimate Fire Island Bucket List

Fire Island Photo Collage: Beach Bliss & Breathtaking Vistas

In a little world of its own, Fire Island has its captivating charm and unique allure. With pristine beaches, maritime forests, and an atmosphere that effortlessly transitions from serene to vibrant, Fire Island is a gem that requires a ferry ride to reach — a small effort but definitely worth the trip! Notably, this island is renowned for its LGBTQ+-friendly locales like Cherry Grove and Fire Island Pines, enhancing its appeal and diversity!

I’ve decided to make a bucket list for Fire Island because even though this island is tiny, there’s SO much to discover and do — which is perfect for unforgettable experiences!

Fire Island's Sunken Forest: Enchanting Maritime Forest Walk

Sunken Forest

Right at Sailors Haven, the Sunken Forest is a must-visit spot!

It's an extraordinary maritime forest ecosystem, where ancient American Holly trees, some over 300 years old, reign supreme. The forest is "sunken" behind the dunes, creating a unique and mesmerizing atmosphere.

I had wonderful memories here and I've never encountered such natural beauty.

Don't miss the chance to visit this spot. Just remember to apply mosquito spray before you head into the Sunken Forest — because there’s a TON of them there.

Fire Island Lighthouse: Panoramic Views from Historic Landmark

Fire Island Lighthouse

This iconic lighthouse, located on the Kismet side of the island, holds the title of both the tallest lighthouse on Long Island and one of its oldest!

Head to the top for some breathtaking panoramic views. You might even see the Manhattan skyline from there. 😉

Fire Island's Cherry Grove Beach: Vibrant LGBTQ+ Beach Scene

Cherry Grove

An LGBTQ+ favorite! And get this: even though it’s not technically a nude beach, you’ll see people sunbathing nude — so feel free to let loose!

If you’re hungry, no worries — there's a bunch of food joints nearby. Once you're done eating, just stroll over to the beach and bathe in the sun.

It's all about good times and relaxation at Cherry Grove!

Fire Island - Kismet Beach: Treasure Hunt on Pristine Shores

Kismet Beach

If you’re looking for a more chill beach experience, Kismet Beach would be your best bet!

Unlike some of the other beaches on Fire Island, Kismet offers more of a laid-back kinda experience with fewer crowds, is pet-friendly (a big plus!), and is perfect for soaking up the summer sun!
