While staying at The Secret in Con Dao, my partner and I decided to skip the breakfast provided at the hotel and explore a local eatery instead. That’s how we found An Oi Cafe & Restaurant — a cozy local spot serving up fresh, healthy meals all day long.

From breakfast to dinner, they offer a diverse menu packed with nutritious options, including vegan-friendly dishes. Let’s dive into why this spot deserves a place on your Con Dao itinerary!

about An Oi

Lush potted plants in An Oi Con Dao’s outdoor dining area – A cozy, greenery-filled cafe space on Con Dao Island, Vietnam.

An Oi is a mother-daughter restaurant that opened when they relocated from Central Vietnam to Con Dao in the summer of 2022. Their vision was to create a cozy spot where people from all over the world and the island could come together to connect with nature and enjoy the nourishing meals they made with love.

Every morning, they bake fresh bread, hoping to start their guests’ day with warmth and positivity. Their goal? To inspire people to appreciate the beautiful nature surrounding them, embrace a sustainable lifestyle, and raise awareness about environmental conservation.

Beyond the restaurant, the mother also teaches yoga at the local cultural center — so if you’re in the mood for a stretch, she’s got you covered! They’re also happy to assist with travel tips and island recommendations.

getting there

Moped parked outside An Oi Con Dao surrounded by lush greenery – Scooter parking area with tropical plants outside this eco-friendly cafe.

By scooter

We rented a scooter from our hotel to explore the island at our own pace. If your hotel doesn’t provide any rentals, you can check out Klook for scooter options. While the service might require some extra coordination, it’s the best way to navigate Con Dao, as everything is quite spread out.

stepping inside

Pulling up to An Oi, we parked our moped right outside and were greeted by a warm, inviting atmosphere. Seating is available both indoors and outdoors. Inside, it feels like stepping into an intimate Asian home, while outside, you get a breezy, open-air experience with plenty of potted greenery.

There were plenty of seats available both inside and outside, but we decided to sit outside to soak in the peaceful island vibes on our last day in Con Dao.

I didn’t take a picture of the full menu because I think it’s more enjoyable to discover their offerings in person; it adds an element of surprise. Instead, I want to focus on the breakfast, lunch, and dinner options.

An Oi serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner:

  • BREAKFAST

    7:00 AM - 11:00 AM

  • LUNCH & DINNER

    11:30 AM - 10:00 PM

Delicious! And can I just say, the fruit here is next level? So fresh and naturally sweet.

🥑 Avocado Toast with Bacon

My partner’s pick. A solid choice for a filling yet healthy meal.

🥞 Pancakes with fresh fruit & honey

We shared this and although I only took a couple of bites because I was getting so full from my breakfast, the pancakes were so good, and the fresh passionfruit made my partner’s day! The bananas were incredibly sweet too.

🥤 Brown Rice Drink (Cold)

The brown rice drink was subtle, with a lot of water and ice, but it was still enjoyable and surprisingly had a hint of coffee flavor.

🍊 Fresh Orange Juice – My partner’s choice. Slightly watered down, but still refreshing.

final thoughts

Water cooler station at An Oi Con Dao with reusable cups – Eco-friendly hydration setup promoting sustainability at this Vietnamese cafe.

I absolutely lovedddd this spot. Exploring local restaurants like An Oi adds so much depth to a trip — beyond just great food, it’s about the connections and experiences. I wish we had more time to chat with the owners and dive into their story, but we had to head back to pack for our next stop: Saigon.

If you’re in Con Dao, don’t miss this amazing spot. And if I ever return, I’d love to try their lunch and dinner, chat more with the locals, and maybe even join one of their yoga sessions!
