JACU CAFE: waffles, bagels & artisanal coffee in Taichung
Ever had a place on your breakfast bucket list that you couldn't wait to check out?
That's exactly how I felt about JACU CAFE in Taichung.
When Gabriel and I finally got to try the bagels and waffles that everyone on Google was hyping about, I immediately knew that JACU CAFE is one of those local breakfast gems you can't help but rave about. The cafe's ambiance is warm, green, inviting — creating an intimate space where you step in and immediately feel like you belong.

The Menu
When we arrived, the owner was personally delivering orders to customers. The owner’s mom welcomed us and mentioned he would be back soon.
While waiting, Gabriel and I explored the brown-papered, handmade menu. Using Google Translation on our phones as it was all in Chinese. (Thankfully it worked) Later, I found out there was a Chinese menu WITH English translations on the side, which I could’ve requested!

Artisanal Tea + Coffee
While I'm not a coffee connoisseur, Gabriel really enjoyed the owner's coffee creations. The owner proudly shared that he personally roasts the coffee beans using his on-site coffee bean roaster before crafting individual cups for his customers.
On the tea side, I tried both the Matcha (宇治久小山園抹茶) and the High Mountain Tea (雲霧繚繞群山溪), and both were AMAZING. For fellow tea enthusiasts, the High Mountain Tea at JACU CAFE is a must-try. I got both of my drinks cold because October was terribly hot and humid in October. It’s super refreshing!

Simple Bagels + Waffles
Hands down, one of the best bagels I’ve ever tasted — and I LIVE in New York — so that says a lot.
The Butter and Sugar Bagel (奶油糖貝格) stole the spotlight with its simplicity — just butter and sugar, yet an explosion of flavors. The bagel had the perfect balance of crispiness on the outside and warm fluffiness on the inside. The collaboration between the owner and his friend paid off, creating a bagel that's more than just a snack — t's an art.
The waffle, a homemade creation — lightly sweet with honey drizzled on top, fluffy on the inside, and crispy on the outside. The owner himself personally makes the waffles by hand — skipping the premade mix — and creates the perfect waffle for each person.

A Taste of Jacu Cafe
JACU CAFE is not just a cafe; it's a passionate project that began on September 5th, 2019.
The owner himself was originally in the world of professional ping pong. 15 years ago, he fell in love with coffee-making, bagel and waffle crafting, and tea brewing.
Dedicating himself to the art of coffee, the owner took on various roles, learning the intricacies of coffee bean production from friends and working in cafes. Even though he juggles his role as a ping pong instructor, the owner's dedication to creating delightful bagels, waffles, coffee, and tea remains unwavering. Every sip and bite shows his passion and commitment to his craft.

Final Thoughts
While the concept of a waffle and bagel may seem straightforward, each bite tells a different story. The owner's mastery in creating these simple delights is nothing short of incredible.
If you find yourself in Taichung, don't miss the chance to savor the simple yet profound delights of Jacu Cafe.
